About
Sophie uses the ancient and therapeutic craft of peg loom weaving to create rugs, mats and wall hangings using British wool. Driven by sustainability and a passion to utilise this undervalued natural fibre that grows all us, she also teaches this craft to others in her regular workshops.
Sophie uses British wool, often sourced directly from farms in the North of England. She weaves using both carded (combed) wool and uncarded wool that retains its natural curls and crimps, giving gorgeous textures to the finished product.
As well as weaving, she also uses needle felting to create fibre art, jewellery and decorations, and workshops in needle felting are also available.
In her drive to promote British wool as a crafting medium, Sophie sources rare breed wool directly from farms that are working hard to preserve our native breeds, and has breed specific, fully traceable yarn spun at a mill in Yorkshire. She is part of the Northern England Fibreshed - a group of makers and producers committed to working with fibre and dye plants from the North.
