Kate Robertson, of Robertson Kiltmakers, is a hand-sewn kiltmaker and leather sporran maker in the Scottish Borders.

Kate combines traditional techniques, advanced skills and experience to design and sew each kilt by hand; applying her passion, great care, and attention to detail in creating beautifully tailored kilts with a perfect fit.

Each kilt is made from a single length of exceptional quality 100% wool tartan or tweed (typically 8-10 yards for a mens kilt), woven by leading Scottish mills and independent weavers - a few very local to us in the Scottish Borders!

Offering a memorable personal experience, clients have the opportunity to meet directly with their kiltmaker; creating kilts and accessories which truly reflect the style and personality of the wearer.

Kate offers kilt pressing and alterations, giving kilts a new lease of life and ensuring that a kilt never goes unworn - from strap and buckle moves, apron resizing, and full kilt remakes.

In addition to kilts and sporrans, Kate also specialises in handcrafting accessories from beautiful tweeds (such as Borders tweed and Harris Tweed®), wool tartans, and luxuriously soft Liberty London printed cottons. Her collection includes neck ties, bow ties, pocket squares and cufflinks, sashes, scarves, shawls, capes, brooches, and headbands, items for children, pets and bespoke requests!

As a champion of endangered Scottish heritage crafts, Kate is committed to preserving traditional hand-sewn kiltmaking and leather sporran making, exceptional craftsmanship, sustainability, and ethical work practices. She loves to share her passion with others through Kilt and Tartan Talks - taking you on a journey of Highland dress and tartan in Scotland!

Kate’s work celebrates the enduring appeal of the kilt - a fashion staple that has remained relevant for over 500 years.
