About

Acme Atelier is the bespoke kiltmaking studio of Andrea Chappell, based in Moray, N.E Scotland, where hand-stitched kiltmaking combines with handprinted textiles to connect heritage crafts and contemporary design, creating wearable works of art to be passed through generations.

Innovative pleating constructions derived from historic kilt styles, in conjunction with original printed and woven textiles, express stories of people and place, or commemorate a moment in time with meticulous attention to detail. Every element is tailored in style and shape; custom buckles, leatherwork and trims, combine with bespoke handprinted linings, to promote traditional techniques to a modern audience.

Existing textiles and garments can also be used in bespoke kilt commissions, through the IV36 Initiative, which helps support training for the next generation of kiltmakers in Forres, IV36.

Her work is exhibited at home and abroad, fostering collaborations with other crafts, often through community practise. Her kilts are held in public and private collections including the Highland Dress Collection at the National Museum of Scotland and the V&A, she is a Queen Elizabeth Scholar and master artisan for the Michelangelo Foundation.
