About
Michael James Hunter. Twists Studio Glass.
I am a professionally trained glass worker, I learnt the foundations of glassmaking at the Wedgwood Glass factory in King's Lynn, Norfolk, starting as a trainee back in 1974.
After earning the title Master, I moved over to studio work before founding Twists Studio Glass in 1998 with my wife Sue. Twists Studio Glass is an environmentally conscious studio dedicated to keeping glass making skills alive.
I have always had a deep love of filigree cane working. Many 30 minute breaks at Wedgwood glass were spent trying to figure out how to make it. The only instruction I was given by one of the masters was "You need to make cane". So I started out on my self-education on learning, possibly the most difficult of all the glass forming techniques. This consisted of a series of one step forwards, two step back scenarios as I was trying to figure out the most basics...Pulling a straight cane!
I have given many presentations and demonstrations here in the UK, and abroad, having perfected those cane working techniques, making to museum quality. I have also had many articles published here in the UK but mostly in the USA.
